mRNA Chest Pain Guideline
SUMMARY
The widespread vaccination of children and adolescents with mRNA COVID vaccines has resulted in some ED visits due to concerns regarding rare side-effects, particularly pericarditis and/or myocarditis.
PREDICT and ACEM, in consultation with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), the NZ Immunisation Advisory Centre, and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) have developed a brief guideline on an approach to the initial assessment and workup of children and adolescents presenting to the ED with vaccine-related symptoms.
This guideline was developed during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. It has not been reviewed and is no-longer considered up to date. Please refer to local experts for further advice. The guideline remains available as a resource.
