Research Assistant Representative, Megan Duck
Meet Megan, or Duckey as most people know her around the hospital, the RDPH Emergency Department Nursing Research Coordinator.
Megan is currently in her 20th year working for TEHS and has been the research coordinator for the last three years. Royal Darwin Hospital’s Emergency Department is a hub to some of the Territory’s most important clinical research.
The current research occurring at the ED spans topics such as sepsis, domestic and family violence, alcohol harm minimisation, and neck injuries in children. Megan’s work overlooking all of these projects is multifaceted, giving her the opportunity to still be involved in the clinical aspect of emergency nursing.
Megan has always been passionate about research and worked as a research assistant before completing her nursing degree. She always felt like she would end up working within this field and has recently completed a Graduate Diploma of Health Research.
Moreover, Megan’s work has provided her the exciting opportunity to present at an interstate research event. “Research has given me so many new opportunities that I didn’t know were out there.”
Megan believes research is vital to the improvement of the ED’s protocols and policies. “Without research, you won’t be able to make the change for better health outcomes for our patients and community.”
